THE REAL TROUBLE AT MANCHESTER UNITED (NOT MOURINHO)

By Ridwan Oladejo

Glory! Glory! Man united, that is what we are used to in Manchester. Manchester united - the red devils - owns the bragging rights in the two halves of Manchester; now in history? With the recent match outcomes under Mourinho, can we still chant again with pride?

The current manager at the helm of affairs has been severally attacked for the team's display, while also not forgetting the attacks he also launched. According to some quarters of the British media, Mou has been quoted to criticise the transfer policy of the club, aside his criticism of his players and match officials in recent times. However, it should be noted that the board got him the players he requested (e.g. Pogba and Mihky) to bolster the squad he met at United... yet, he is dissatisfied.
Who then do we blame - board, manager, players or predecessors? Hitting the nail on the head, the current situation hammering the red devils can be traced to the final lap of Sir Alex Ferguson's era as United's manager. With a visibly ageing squad, Fergie didn't see the need and necessity to get the players worthy of adorning the devils jersey. One obvious mistake, even to the blind, was the recall of Paul Scholes out of retirement to fill the void in United's midfield. Good move?
In addition, the appointments of Moyes and LVG didn't spell good for a big football club like Man United. These two aforementioned managers could only attract average quality players (e.g. Damian), as well as those who struggled for form in the ever crazy English premier league (e.g. Depay). This only brings to fore that the situation rocking United's season has been on for quite some time and Mou is wrong to point fingers.

In conclusion, Mourinho is wrong, terribly wrong to criticize the club's transfer policy. He was responsible for the choice of players bought, even if it meant breaking banks to land the players signatures. Unlike his counterpart in the blue half of Manchester who got his targets and the pounds to spend, and his players in arguably their best form at the moment... Mourinho is only venting his frustrations and inability to get results on the wrong channels -board, players, and match officials. The devil has been in it's snare before his arrival in the red half of Manchester.

CHELSEA BOARD: A CAUSE FOR WORRY

By Rildwan Oladejo Since the opening of the January (winter) transfer window of 2018, Chelsea football club has been linked with several football players from home and abroad. Most transfer windows are characterized by reports from various sources (confirmed and unconfirmed), but in every rumour there's an iota of truth. Inarguably, the team is currently rocked by crisis. Whatever it is that is the main cause of this "shadow-crisis" remains a mystery. However, a few options come to mind - Conte's future, the formation change, rumours of players likely departure and/or new arrivals struggle to adapt to life in the English premier league. Could this be why numerous players are constantly being linked to the club? Morata; the team's main point man is misfiring; Hazard's contract extension talks ongoing and Bakayoko is another player struggling with confidence in the midfield... where is the Chelsea Football Club we are accustomed to? The midfield o...

STOKE CITY APPOINTS PAUL LAMBERT AS MANAGER

Stoke City have appointed former Aston Villa and Norwich boss Paul Lambert as manager.   Stoke are 18th in the Premier League table, a point away from safety, and were sent out of the FA Cup by Coventry City ( League Two side ) .  Lambert hasn't managed any team since leaving Wolves at the end of last season. He has also managed Colchester, Wycombe Wanderers and Blackburn.  Stoke chairman Peter Coates said: "Paul greatly impressed us with his knowledge of our squad and had a clear plan of how he would improve our results. "He's a man who backed himself as a player, none more so than when he turned down contract offers in Scotland to go on trial in the German Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund, and it's obvious he adopts the same approach as a manager." Vice-chairman John Coates added: "Paul has been successful in management at clubs with a strong and stable background and with local ownership - the kind of foundation we are able to give ...
